A
- infection of the soft tissues behind the orbital septum.

What are the causes of orbital cellulitis
A
Same causes of meningitis:
- Streptococcus pneumoniae
- staphylococcus aureus
- haemophilus influenza

What are the risk factors of orbital cellulitis?
A
- sinus disease
- trauma e.g. septal perforation

What are the symptoms of orbital cellulitis?
A
- unilateral
- rapid onset of erythema and swelling
- sever pain
- blurred vision / diplopia
- fever, headache
- systemic malaise

What are the signs of orbital cellulitis?
A
- lid erythema
- oedema
- pain
- reduced visual acuity
- proptosis (protrusion of the eye)

What are the differentials of orbital cellulitis?
A
- preseptal cellulitis
- necrotising fasciitis

What are the investigations for orbital cellulitis?
A
- FBC (leucocytosis)
- CT of sinuses as well as orbit and brain

What is the treatment for orbital cellulitis?
A
- IV cefuroxime and metronidazole
