A
inflammation of the edge of the eyelids

What are the 2 types of blepharitis?
A
- seborrhoeic
- staphylococcal (aureus or epidermis)

What are the signs of seborrhoeic blepharitis?
A
- associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis
- overproduction of sebum
- foamy tear film and plugs of yellow sebum in meibomian glands.
- lid margins not as severe as staph blepharitis

What are the signs of staphylococal blepharitis?
A
- lid margin inflamed
- coated sclaes
- lashes stuck together by crusts

what is associated with blepharitis?
A
- Dry eye
- corneal scarring and vascularisation
- peripheral corneal ulceration/infiltration
- inward growing eyelashes (trichiasis)
- Stye (external hordeolum)
- Internal horeolum ( acute bacterial mebonium gland infection)
- acne rosacea

- 2’ conjunctivitis
- punctate corneal epithelial erosions
