What is right to withdraw
Giving participants the right to leave the study or remove their data from the research.

They need to be told of their right in the consent form and debrief sheet.
What is informed consent
Participants need to be told what will happen to them in the study. They need to sign a consent form; if young children then parents need to give consent.

If informed consent cannot be given due to demand characteristics then the true aim needs to be told in the debrief.
What is confidentiality
Participants name and details must be anonymised (referred to as a number not name); apart from consent form. All confidential information needs to be secured.

What is deception
Where participants are lied to id does not cause harm to participants and is necessary for the validity of the study. E.g., to avoid demand characteristics or increase mundane realism.

What is distress
Participants should remain in the same state as when they entered the study. Participants should not be harmed, physically or psychologically.

What is a debrief
This happens at end of the study. True aim told, counselling offered, right to withdraw reminder.
