Observational Designs Flashcards
1
Q
Event sampling
A
Record every time you see the behaviour. An event refers to a specific behaviour on the coding scheme for the duration of the observation.
2
Q
Event sampling advantages
A
- Useful when behaviours don’t happen frequently.
3
Q
Event sampling disadvantages
A
- May miss behaviour if lots of behaviour is happening at one time.
4
Q
Time sampling
A
Recording behaviour for a predetermined length of time at regular intervals. Record all behaviour that occurs in this specific timed intervals.
5
Q
Time sampling advantages
A
- Show time related changes in behaviour, less likely to miss behaviours in the time intervals.
- Only observe in short intervals.
6
Q
Time sampling disadvantages
A
- May miss behaviour if it occurs outside of your sampling time.
7
Q
Continuous recording
A
Every instance of an individual’s behaviour or response is watched and recorded in the time period by the observer.
8
Q
Continuous reading advanatges
A
- Behaviours not specified in behavioural categories are accounted for.
9
Q
Continuous reading disadvantages
A
- Some behaviours may be missed.
