Correlation Flashcards
1
Q
What are correlations
A
- Correlation look at the relationship between variables.
- We are not manipulating IV so can’t establish cause and effect.
2
Q
Positive correlation
A
- The points lie closer to a straight line, which has a positive gradient.
- This shows that as one variable increases, the other increases.
3
Q
Negative correlation
A
- The points lie close to a straight line, which has a negative gradient.
- This shows that as one variable increases, the other decreases.
4
Q
No correlation
A
- There is no pattern to points.
- This shows that they’re is no correlation between the two variables.
5
Q
Correlation advantages
A
- Useful when an experiment would be unethical or impractical.
- May suggest the need to follow up with an experiment.
6
Q
Correlation disadvantages
A
- Lack of causation. No control over variables, can’t say on co-variable causes the other.
