Scientific Method and Homeostasis Flashcards
Why is it important the internal environment is kept consistent
Because the body needs the ECF to be maintained in a state compatible with the survival of individual cells.
Describe the principles behind a negative feedback control system
A change in temperature etc is detected by receptors, they then feed this to an integrating centre which compares it to a reference level. Effectors then bring the change back to normal.
There is oscillation around a set point.
The magnitude of the error is proportional to the size of the response and deviation.
What is feed forward control?
More advanced Negative Feedback- more sensors so change is anticipated before significant changes can occur
What are the body fluid compartments?
Plasma+ISF= ECF (33%), ICF (66%)
