Science review Flashcards
What is a system
Composed of parts that work together to perform a function.
What is a physical system
A group of physical parts that need to work together to perform a function.
What is a social system
A group of people or other organisms, joining together to
perform tasks and establish relationships.
8 types of forces
1) applied force
2) spring force
3) drag force
4) frictional force
5) normal force
6) magnetic force
7) electric force
8) gravitational force
Mechanical system
A mechanical system manages power to accomplish a task that involves forces and movement.
Weight
Weight is a measure
of how strong the force of gravity is between two objects.
Side effects
Unintended or unwanted outputs.
Examples: Pollution, Waste, Climate Change
Mass
Mass is a measure of the amount of matter or material in an object.
Force
Is a push or a pull on an object that may result in a change in the object’s motion or shape
Imput
Is all the things that go into a system to make it work
Examples: Force, Energy, Resources
Output
Is all of the tasks or services that the system performs
Examples: Heat, Food, Energy
Mechainal efficiency
Mechanical efficiency
(ME) is a comparison of the useful work or energy that a mechanical system produces to
the work or energy that was put into the system.
Physical system
A group of physical parts that need to work together to perform a function.
Simple machine
A simple machine is a device, composed of only one or two parts, that requires a single force to work.
Joule
A short form for newton meters
