- No laws were being passed because there was lack of compromise between the French and British sides of the legislative assembly
- The answer was a whole new system of Government that would break the stand-off

suggested uniting Upper and Lower Canada into the United Province of Canada @ This lead to frequen

Summarize and explain Creating an Inter Colonial Railway linking all the colonies
- The United Province of Canada offered to build a Railway to link all the ca
incentive for the colonies as an incentive for the colonies to join in Confederation - They highlighted how this would benefit all the Colonies in terms of protection against the Americans by making the movement of troops easier if one Colony were to ever be attacked by The Americans
- They also highlighted the economic benefit to all the colonies to promote trade
between the colonies… with a railway they would be able to transfer goods and
products back and forth between the colonies - The building of the railway would be a shared cost with all the colonies benefiting

What does Coalition, Federalism and Manifest Destiny mean?
Coalition - two sides joining together - political parties making one government
Federalism- Wanted to form a federal union that would allow both sides to have a provincial government along with a Central government
Manifest Destiny - Americans believed it was their right to control all of North America and spread their Democratic system of government. The Americans attempted to overpower the colonies many times (War 1812, Fabian raids, American revolution)
What are the “Big Ideas” from unit 3?
- Not all Canadians enjoyed the same rights and privileges in the colonies of British North America.
- People in Canada had different reactions to the proposed creation and expansion of “Canada”.
- This was an era of major political and economic change, which affected various groups in Canada in different ways.
