What is the function of the ovary?
To make eggs.
What is reproduction?
It is the formation of new individuals.
What is the function of the fallopian tube?
To carry eggs to the womb and fertilisation takes place here.
What is the function of the uterus?
To hold the developing baby
What is the function of the cervix?
The opening of the uterus.
What is the function of the vagina?
The baby passes through it in childbirth. It also holds the penis during copulation.
What is puberty?
It is when the reproductive system matures from around the age of 10-15
What is the function of the testes?
To make sperm
What is the function of the sperm duct?
To carry sperm from testes to penis
What is the function of the scrotum?
To keep testes cool for the formation of sperm
What is the function of the prostate gland?
To make fluid which nourishes sperm.
What is the function of the urethra?
The tube that carries sperm out of the body
What is the function of the penis?
To transfer sperm to the vagina.
What is ejaculation?
The release of semen from the penis.
What is a zygote?
A fertilised egg.
What is fertilisation?
When the egg and sperm join.
What is implantation?
It is when the developing embryo attaches itself to the wall of the uterus.
What is the amnion?
The sac in which the baby develops.
What is amniotic fluid?
It surrounds the embryo and protects it acting as a shock absorber.
What is the umbilical chord?
It is the chord that connects the baby to the placenta.
What is the placenta?
It allows materials top pass between mother and baby.
Write three things that happen directky before birth.
Waters break, labour begins(uterus contracts), cervix dilates.
Write 3 things that happen directly after birth.
Baby cries, placenta is pushed out and mother produces breastmilk.
Name the stages of the menstrual cycle and mention the days where they occur.
A period/bleeding (1-5), lining of uterus builds up (6-12), fertile period (11-16), lining remains intact (16-28).
What is a period?
It is when the lining of the womb passes out of the body.
What is ovulation?
When an egg is released from the ovary.
What is contraception?
The prevention of fertilisation or pregnancy
What is a gamete and gove two examples?
A sex cell -eg sperm and egg
