Examples of positive symptoms
delusions, hallucinations, exaggerations/distortions of normal thoughts/emotions/behaviors, disorganized speech and behavior
Examples of negative symptoms
Adhenohia, flat/blunted/restricted affect, avolition/apathy, asociality, alogia
Management of hallucinations/delusions/and paranoia
maintain a neutral position, do not argue about hallucinations or delusions, watch your body language
Grandiose delusions
inaccurate beliefs that one has special powers, wealth, mission, or identity
Persecutory delusion
false, persistent beliefs that one is about to be harmed in some way
Nihilistic
the belief the one is dead, decomposed, or dying
Somatic
something is wrong with them –> sense or bodily functions
Control delusions
one’s thoughts, emotions, perceptions, or actions are under control of different factors
Erotomania
the delusion that someone is in love with them
What do extrapyramidal side effects come from
first-generation antipsychotics
What do extrapyramidal side effects look like
muscle stiffness, tremors, involuntary movements, tardive dyskinesia
What is tardive dyskinesia
an irreversible movement disorder
