POWER mnemonic for safety on railways

A

P – POWER OFF. Trains stopped and confirmed by authorised person such as Rail Incident Officer (RIO) (if in doubt, contact control).
O – Off the tracks unless casualty appears viable.
W – Wear personal protective equipment (minimum high-vis jacket and helmet).
E – Ensure control/incident commander knows you are entering or leaving trackside.
R – Rapidly remove viable casualty and treat in safest, agreed area off tracks.
