Misuse of drugs regulations - schedules
Schedule 1 - no therapeutic effect (e.g. ecstasy, cannabis)
Schedule 2 - highly addictive (e.g. amphetamines, morphine, diamorphine).
Schedule 3 - minor stimulants (e.g. midazolam, tramadol). Less likely to be abused the schedule 2)
Schedule 4- Exempt from the safe custody regulations and the schedule is divided in two parts:
• Mainly the benzodiazepines, e.g. diazepam and possession is an offence without a prescription or an exemption.
• Anabolic and androgenic steroids, e.g. testosterone.
Schedule 5 - Includes weak Schedule 2 drugs that present little risk of misuse and can be sold over the counter as a pharmacy medicine, e.g. codeine
