Q

Flooding procedure for rotary saw

A

Ensure the Choke is pushed in and the half throttle is engaged. This allows the maximum
amount of air to flow through the carburetor, combustion chamber and out the exhaust.
2. Pull starting cord and cycle the saw quickly about 4-5 times. As the air to fuel mixture in
the combustion chamber lowers it will start.

19
Q

A 4 stroke engine takes what kind of fuel

A

Normal Gasoline (Red Can)

20
Q

What are the 2 Different chain brakes on the chain saw

A

Manual and automatic

21
Q

How can you engage the chain break on the chain saw

A

Press your left wrist forward on the hand guard to engage it

22
Q

START position for a cold rotary saw

A

Decompression valve IN, Choke OUT, STOP switch pulled left (run position), pull chord until you hear it want to turn over, press Choke IN, continue pulling until it starts, disengage fast idle with throttle interlock

23
Q

START position for warm rotary saw

A

Decompression valve IN, Choke IN, STOP switch pulled left (run position), pull chord

24
Q

The chain brake on the chainsaw engages in how many tenths of a second?

A

1/10th

25
Q

The safety member of a chain saw should remain in contact with them while they are cutting utilizing what kind of grip?

A

underhand grip on the scabbard belt

26
Q

START position for chain saw while cold

A

Chain Break OFF, grasping the throttle interlock, and place master control lever in choke position.
Crank engine until it begins to fire, place master control in to start position, pull chord unti engine starts, once it starts immediately squeeze throttle interlock to take it out of fast idle

27
Q

cut depth for the chain saw depends on what factors

A
  1. Type of construction
  2. Thickness of roof covering
  3. Thickness of decking
  4. Intended operations
28
Q

carbide tips on the chain saw should be replaced when-

A
  1. Missing/damaged tips on 3 or more cutters in a row.
  2. Missing /damaged tips on 6 or more cutters at random.
  3. Cracked/broken tie straps
  4. Dull chain
29
Q

To adjust the chain tension, you need to-

A
  1. Loosen drive sprocket cover nuts.
  2. Grasp tip of guide bar and raise to remove slack between guide bar and mounting studs.
    (Figure 6)
  3. Adjust tension screw, located inboard of the guide bar on the front of the chain saw. Turn
    clockwise to tighten
  4. While tightening adjusting screw, pull chain through its travel to locate any high spots.
Make final tension adjustment to tightest place on chain.
  5. Tension is correct when the chain travels freely around the bar as it is pulled by hand and
the bottoms of all tie straps and cutters touch the underside of the bar rails.
  6. Tighten drive sprocket cover nuts.
30
Q

A daily check of the chain saw includes-

A
  1. Check fuel level. Add mixed fuel if necessary.
  2. Check lubricating oil level. Add if necessary.
  3. Check chain condition, tension, and proper direction of travel.
  4. Check controls for proper starting position.
  5. Check carrying strap and hooks for condition.
  6. Check gauntlet gloves for proper location and condition.
  7. Make a visual check of tile chain saw for loose fasteners and/or covers.
31
Q

A weekly check of the chain saw includes-

A
  1. Perform daily checks.
  2. Start chain saw.
  3. Depress manual oiler several times if chain saw is so equipped.
  4. Run up RPM by alternately depressing and releasing throttle trigger. Run until warm
  5. Check to see if chain is oiling properly.
  6. Place chain saw on firm surface. At idle speed, engage chain brake. Improper chain brake
operation shall be reported to the shops.
  7. Shut off chain saw and allow to cool.
  8. Check chain tension and readjust if necessary.
  9. Inspect starter cord for fraying and contamination. Inspect security of starter cord handle.
  10. Top off fuel and chain lubricating oil levels if necessary.
32
Q

A monthly check of the chain saw includes-

A
  1. Perform daily checks
  2. Remove spark plug. Check gap and condition. Clean, regap or replace if necessary.
  3. Inspect engine case for cracks and/or leaks.
  4. Inspect the fuel assembly for leaks, cracks or soft fuel lines. DO NOT operate chain saw if a
    fuel leak exists.
  5. If a tank of fuel has not been used in the previous 30 days, drain fuel and refill with fresh
    fuel mix.
  6. Remove air cleaner housing. Check air cleaner for tears and general condition.
  7. Inspect security of carburetor and all linkage.
33
