When subjected to hazardous environment during firefighting and other emergencies, or while participating in training activities.

What type of body armor does LAFD have?
US Armor multi-layered Kevlar/Spectra Shield, protection level IIA
Body armor protects against what?
Blunt force trauma, sharp objects, low/med energy bullets, shotgun pellets, “slashing” knives.
Not protected from rifle fire.
When is body armor worn?
Any time a member deems necessary
- SHALL be worn: Assault with deadly weapon, Domestic violence, Shootings, Stabbings, Sniper/Police standbys, Other violent crimes, Tactical Alerts, Known trouble areas
