Saron: Human Factors Flashcards
Rain on windshield
Runway will look lower than it is, causing pilot to be low on approach
Haze on final
Runway looks farther than it is, resulting in high approach
Terrain around the runway is high
Tendency to fly high approach
Empty field myopia
Lack of stimulus for the eyes, eyes will focus 3-5’ away. Object in sky will appear smaller, thus farther away.
Refocus by looking at wing tips
Autokinesis
Single light in an area with no other references. Minute involuntary movement of the eye make it appear to be moving. Can induce vertigo
False horizons
Few lights can blend in with stars
Sloping cloud tops
Somatogravic illusion
Acceleration illusion pitch up deceleration pitch down
Hazardous attitudes
Anti-authority, Impulsivity, Invulnerability, Machoism, Resignation
Hypoxic Hypoxia
Insufficient oxygen and insufficient pressure in lungs.
High altitude
Stagnant hypoxia
Blood carrying oxygen is prevented from moving through the body
Sitting for long periods, high G loading
Anaemic hypoxia
Blood is unable to absorb oxygen
Carbon monoxide poisoning,
Hystoxic hypoxia
Organs and tissues not able to absorb oxygen
Alcohol consumption
Symptoms of hypoxia may include
Euphoria, tingling, numbness, dizziness/drowsiness, visual impairment, fatigue, headache, nausea, hunger, hot/cold flashes, poor coordination/reaction time, poor judgment, rapid breathing, blue lips/finger tips
Donating blood
Do not fly for 48 hrs
Possibility of anaemic hypoxia, lack of hemoglobin in blood to transport oxygen
Hypoxia at night
Can be felt as low as 5,000’
