Instruments Flashcards
Blocked pitot tube will cause
Airspeed to behave like an altimeter, climb increases, descent decreases. Only affects airspeed
Blocked static port will
Airspeed will be opposite to altimeter. Climbing decrease, descending increase.
VS will read 0
Altimeter will freeze
Altimeter setting errors
High to low look out below
Hot to cold don’t be bold
Magnetic compass errors
Turning - UNOS (Undershoot North Overshoot south)
Acceleration - ANDS (Accelerate North Decelerate South)
Rate one turn formula
Knots TAS/10 + 7
Mph TAS/10+5
If the altimeter cannot be set above 31.00 For an IFR aircraft
Increase the ceiling requirements by 100 feet and visibility by 1/4 statute mile for each 1/10th inch of mercury over 31.00
Auto pilot categories
CATIIIB controls landing or auto land often available in major airports
CATI I I C also controls taxi to parking
TAWS class A vs class B
Class BTAWS provides at minimum alerts for: Reduced required terrain clearance, imminent terrain impact, premature decent, excessive rate of decent, negative rate of climb or altitude loss after takeoff, descend to 500 feet above the terrain or nearest runway elevation during a non-precision approach, Class A TAWS: all class B plus excessive closure rate to terrain, flight into terrain when not in landing config, excessive downward deviation from ILS Glideslope
