What is a random sample?
Every member of the target population has an equal chance of being selected (lottery method)
What is systematic sample?
Every nth person is chosen from a list
What is a stratified sample?
The proportions of people in population subgroups are reflected in the sample
What is opportunity sample?
Whoever is available at the time of sampling will be included
What is volunteer sampling?
Participants select themselves to participate in the study
What is target population?
The entire group of people a researcher is interested in (the group the experimenter wishes to draw conclusions from)
What is a sample?
A group of people who take part in research investigations and are drawn from the target population, so they are assumed to be representative of that population
What is a sampling frame?
A list of every person in the target population e.g, names and contact details and is need for some sampling methods
Which methods require a sampling frame?
Random, systematic and stratified
