Presentation of quantitative data Flashcards
What is a table?
Quantitative data is converted to descriptive statistics and can be summarised
What is a bar chart?
A type of graph in which the frequency of each variable is represented by the height of the separate bars
What is a histogram?
A type of graph in which the area of each bar represents frequency
What is a scattergram?
A graph that represents the strength and direction of a relationship between co-variables
What are the types of distribution?
Normal, positive and negative
Where is normally distributed data located?
Centrally around the mean
How is a normal distribution curve drawn?
As a bell which is symmetrical
What is the relationship between the mean, median and mode in normal distribution?
Mean = median = mode
What is example of normally distributed data?
IQ
Where is data located on a positively skewed graph?
Mostly on the left
What is the relationship between the mean, median and mode in positively skewed distribution?
Mean > median > mode
What is an example of positively skewed data?
Income
Where is data located on a negatively skewed graph?
Mostly on the right
What is the relationship between the mean, median and mode in negatively skewed distribution?
Mode > median > mean
What is an example of negatively skewed data?
Lesson attendance
How is a positively skewed graph drawn?
Tail skews up
How is a negatively skewed graph drawn?
Tail skews down
What are graphs?
A visual representation of summarised data
What’s the difference how a bar chart and histogram are drawn?
A bar chart needs gaps between bars which a histogram doesn’t
