What’s the two perceptible symbols of baptism, what do they mean?
The pouring of water on a persons head is cleaning of original sin. The oil anointing the person is a sign of strength and courage.
What does confirmation do to a person?
Strengthens their faith to become a mature, active Catholic in the world

Reciting baptismal promise is a sign of maturing. With the words ‘..be sealed with the Holy Spirit’ symbolising the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit’

What do the Orthodox Church believe about Sacraments?
Have rituals recognisable to the sacraments, but do not call them sacraments

Believe in transubstantiation (BREAD=Body) recognised the Eucharistic sacrament
What do the other protestants (including most Anglicans) believe about Sacraments?
Have similar ideas but believe these rituals are signs of faith, not grace through god

Why do sacraments not always mean we feel a sense of duty to god?
Because not all Catholics continue to go to mass once they’re confirmed
Why can sacraments bridge the gap between god and humans?
Because we are separated from god because of sin, but we are forgiven and receive gods grace through the sacraments of reconciliation
Why can Catholics be close to god without sacraments?
Because Catholics pray outside of the mass, and also through non sacramental vocations such as teaching or being a doctor
What does JESUS imply throughout the scripture?
We will become closer to god through certain actions we have developed into sacraments
What is liturgy?
Liturgy is relating to public worship in the church. Sections of the mass are divided into different liturgies.
Give 4 reasons Catholics go to mass?
Opportunity to pray as a community
Deepens our bond with god
Opportunity to receive Jesus in holy communion
Because 1 of the 10 commandments say Sunday must be holy
Define sacrifice
To make holy by putting Someone before yourself and expecting nothing in return

Why does JESUS want us to take communion?
So we remember his sacrifice
What do we do in mass through communion?
We join in Christ in the offering of himself to god on the cross, by offering ourselves to god

BECAUSE JESUS was a sacrificial lamb to god and lamb = purity
Why do christians no longer offer animal sacrifices to God?
Jesus’ sacrafice on the cross was the ultimate sacrifice, nothing we can do will compare

In baptism, when we’re freed from original sin. In holy communion, when we receive jesus’ body and blood

Final Prayers to deceased, treats their body with respect as they will be glorified.
When is the requiem be celebrated?
Usually celebrated as past of the funeral but not always.

Opportunity to pray for souls of departed
Chance to say goodbye
Unites us with everyone + souls in heaven
Pray and show respect to body, that will be glorified
Remind us of next life
Look forwards to resurrection of the dead and the life of the world
