Commoners
These consisted of the peasants (farmers), the bourgeoisie (doctors and lawyers etc.) and the city workers (cooks and merchants etc.)
The commoners paid all of the taxes which was 50% of their income.

The concept that all men were created the same and deserve the same treatment , no matter whom they may be.

Three Estates
These were the three different social standings you could be part of if you lived in France in the late 1700s.
The Estates General
This was a meeting called between all three estates of France which had before 1789 had not been called since 1614.
Jacobins
Political party in 18th century France that Maximilian Robespierre led.
Sans-culottes
These were the poor people of France. They could not afford the full length trousers, called culottes, and instead wore three-quarter lengths. They were called sans-culottes which means Without Trousers.
The National convention
This was the new parliament elected after the abolishment of monarchy in France.
The Enlightenment
This was when popular writers began to question the absolute right to rule that Kings were granted in the 18th century.
Feudal dues
These were the taxes or feeds paid that were basically old fashioned property tax which they owed to the lot of the manor.
