Prophylaxis against Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Uses two key backbone HIV treatment drugs daily as prevention

Drug class:
nucleos(t)ide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI)
Approved drugs: tenofovir disoproxil fumurate (TDF) + emtricitabine (FTC)
Not interchangeable!
Must have a negative HIV test
Indications for PrEP
Men who have sex with men (MSM) at substantial risk of HIV acquisition
Recent bacterial STI, high number of sex partners, history of inconsistent or no condom use, commercial sex worker
Indications for PrEP
Persons who inject drugs (PWID) aka IV drug users (IVDU)
Persons who have partners known to have HIV infection
