Q

Turn Barreling

Two types of double barrel bluffs

A

Equity-Driven bluffs

  • Flush or straight draws, combo draws (possibly with overcards)

Blocker-Driven bluffs

  • Zero-to-low equity hands that block opponents’ calling range
  • Often we dig for these when we’re deficient in equity-driven bluffs, but sometimes ther’re just too good not to use

MP bets 1/3 on K66ssd vs a BB defender; turn is a 2
Good blocker-driven bluffs: 87hh, A7cc

Connected Boards - Value

A

BTN vs BB; K82rb 1/3 C-Bet, Turn 9c - Brings flush draw
Value Barrels

  • Overbet with low frequency - Sets, 2Pairs, KT+
  • Smaller Kx goes into our checking range to protect all the air in our wide range

Connected Boards - Bluff

A

BTN vs BB; K82rb 1/3 C-Bet, Turn 9c - Brings flush draw

Bluff Barrels

  • Lots of equity driven bluffs - JT, QT, QJ, club draw
  • Some blocker driven bluffs with Q6s-type of hands. But ok to only barrel equity driven
  • It’s important that your sizing scheme is polarized, like your range (i.e. have an overbet size)

Connected Boards - Bet Sizing

A

BTN vs BB, J82rb - 1/3 C-Bet

  • On board pairs or flush/straight-completing turns: 75%
  • On overcard turns, we can simplify and use 75%. Or we can overbet when turn is really good for our range (like a K)

  • The overbet can be an especially powerful move if you consider your opponents’ range - don’t underestimate just how wide it is

Dry Boards - Paired

A

Paired boards are generally the only boards where we have few-to-none “natural”, equity-driven bluffs

772cds, C-Bet/Call; Turn Qh

Use as Blocker Bluffs

  • 86s/T8s with suits that block trips

Never Use as Blocker Bluffs

  • A3/A4, KJ (in wide range spots)

Dry Boards - K high, with straight draw

A

EP vs BB, K84rb, C-Bet/Call; Turn 2

Equity Bluffs

  • A5s/A3s, 65s (Solver doesn’t barrel 76s. Both hands block villain’s folding range but 65s has double the outs)

Blocker Bluffs

  • QJ (Hands that block Kx but not Ax)

Helpful Tips

A
  • A good approach is to first decide what size your range wants to bet on a prticular turn, and then decide if your specific hand wants to bet that size or check
  • Don’t just play on autopilot - that zero equity hand might have good blockers and want to bet, or that top pair might want to babysit your checking range
  • And don’t fall into the trap of sizing based on the class of your hand

Barrel Range

A

When turn card is good for your range

BTN vs BB; Large C-Bet on 872
vs a large c-bet, villain shouldn’t float hands like QJ/QT - so on a Q turn you can bet air
