Q

Building a 4-Betting range

A
  • Everything is centered around the value portion of your range. The more value you have, the more bluffs you need to stay balanced.
  • Our range stays essentially the same vs different 3-bet sizes, except when facing extreme sizes.
  • Opponent tendencies can also influence your range - vs a very tight 3-bettor, you’ll want to remove some bluffs
  • The main factors to consider when 4-betting are your position, and the position of the 3-bettor

Value Portion of a 4-betting Range:
UTG vs MP
QQ+, AK (34 combos)

BTN vs SB

Choosing 4-bet Bluffs

A
  • 4-bet bluffs are centered around postflop playability and blockers
KQs, AQ, AJs, A5s, KJs
  • Avoid always calling with these hands. Otherwise your 4-bet range will be significantly weakened.

Q

4-bet Size

A
  • When 4-betting we want to allow for more playability postflop so that our skill edge has a chance to flourish
  • Be consistent with your sizes regardless of your hand

OOP vs typical 3-bet size (2.5x-3x): 2.6x-2.8x
IP vs typical 3-bet size: 2.1x-2.3x

Q

Adjusting for deeper stacks

A
  • IP our range doesn’t change much but OOP we tighten up, and call more often with good playable hands
  • We also want to utilize a larger size when deeper

Q

Adjusting for shallower stacks

A
  • Sometimes you need to just get those chips in with hands that aren’t quite strong enough to call and play postflop (A6, 66)
  • Especially when IP vs a solid player with a short stack, we need to sometimes flat 3-bets with strong, trappy hands
