RPD LECTURE 2 Flashcards
these connect parts of the prosthetics on one side of the arch to those on the opposite side
MAJOR connectors
should major connectors be flexible or rigid?
you want to them to be rigid to avoid stress on the abutment teeth and damage to the supportive structures
how far away should the borders of MCs beaway form and parallel to the gingival margins?
should be a minimum of 6 mm away from.
where does the posterior limit of the maxillary MCs terminate?
AT or anterior to the vibrating line.
per usual
what angle should the MCs cross the midline?
90 degrees- not diagonally for better patient adaptation and tongue acceptance.
what should the AP width of the anterior posterior strap be?
8 mm
can you use any kennedy classification with A strap max?
yep!
what do you frequently use for a Kennedy class III?
single palatal strap.
8 mm width for ridigidy
-PREFERRED by patients
when should you use a full palate major connector?
if there is remaining abutment tooth on either side is a canine or 1st pre molar. especially in cases with severe vertical ridge resorption
what do you use for a class IV?
U shaped.
not favored.
lacks rigidity= torquing of the abutment teeth
indication for a U shape connector?
large inoperable torus extending posteriorly= can’t place posterior strap
two type of mandibular MCS?
lingual bar and linguoplate
how far below free gingival margin should a lingual bar be?
3 mm below
do patients prefer the lingual bar or the linguolplate?
llingual bar
inferior aspect of the lingual bar has a half pear contour for greatest bulk and rigidity. the bar = ___ mm in vertical height
4 mm
