Q

how often should you check stability and replacement of an INTERIM PRDP?

A

stability and retention should be checked every 3-6 months

soft tissue conditions or chaired reline are essential and needed to compensate for tissue changes as a result of post surgical healing

so interim is like immediate denture?

Q

what are transitional RPDS?

A

used for patient in making that transition to complete dentures

-used to avoid immediate extractions when some or all of the teeth are hopeless, but the patient is not physiologically ready for CDs

teeth are added o the RPD as they’re lost.
relining performed as needed.

no absolute restriction on the use of this prosthesis

Q

what are other uses of RPD?

A

vehicle FOR TISSUE CONDITIONING

  • splint to establish a new VDO or occlusal relationship and evaluate the patient’s progress like TMD therapy
  • as an occlusal guard to correct or control undesirable oral habits

Q

what is the best way to replace a tooth, extend a saddle, change a clasp, repair a broken clasp, add teeth, etc?

A

make a PICK UP ALGINATE impression.

  • pour cast with the PRDP in the impression
  • then, remove the PRDP from the cast to make the repairs

Q

how to you perform a reline?

A

RPDP relines are accomplished similar to the CD relines.
K1 and K11 saddles are treated as altered cast impression trays, wash impression is made, rests/clasps engaged.

performa clinical remount to finalize the occlusion

Q

what are the 6 reasons for interrims?

A
  1. Sake of appearance
  2. Maintenance of a space
  3. Reestablishment of occlusal relationships
  4. Conditioning of teeth and residual ridges
  5. Interim restoration during treatment
  6. Conditioning the patient for wearing a prosthesis
