RPD 11 Flashcards
describe intracoronal attachments?
usually a pre fabricated key/keyway with PARALLEL walls, within the contour of a restoration, creating frictional resistance against the displacement of the PRDP
you can have a classless PRDP with vertical keyways in the crown! WOAH!
what are extracoronal attachments?
create mechanical resistance to displacement through components attached to the external surface of an abutment tooth
advantages of extracoronal?
esthterics
mechanical- funcitonal loads are more APICALLY directed
-improved cross arch load transfer and prosthesis stabilization
where are functional loads MORE directed with extracoronal retention?
they’re more APICALLY directed
what are the disadvantages of an extracoronal retainer?
complexity of the design, fabrication, and clinical treatment
demanding crown prep=== space for the attachment
needs vertical height of 4-6 mm
lab technique– path of insertion is critical
more dinero
wear components and maintenece
what are the contraindications for extracoronal?
poor perio health
poor crown: root
compromised endo and restorative conditions
compormised manular dexterity
inadequate oral hygiene
what is STEP 1!??
DESIGN THE PRDP FRAMEWORK
step 2 for making a survey crown?
crown prep, impression, jaw relation record
describe the crown prep for survey crown?
you have to create extra space for the occlusal rests in the crown prep–required for cingulum rest?
- Provisional crown
- VPS impression
- Jaw relation record– when is a record base/wax rim required?
5th step- crown seating. describe
you want to prepare the rests, guide planes, tooth mods on natural abutment THEN make the framework impression
