Q

reaction time

A

-requires 2 people
-person 1 sits on a stool with upright posture, with the forearm of their dominant hand across the table, hand overhanging the edge
-person 2 holds a ruler vertically with the 0 cm mark between the thumb and first finger
-person 2 tells person 1 to prepare to catch the ruler, then drops it at a random time
-person 1 has to catch the ruler with their thumb and first finger as quickly as possible
-person 2 records the measurement on the ruler that is level between the fingers
-person one has a short rest, then the experiment is repeated 3 times to calculate a mean
-we can convert our results to reaction time using a conversion table
-the persons then switvh places, allowing us to see the different reaction times

Q

Random sampling

A

-place 2 tape measures at right angles,20mx20m
-we need to bags each containing the numbers 1-20
-first student picks a number out the bag and moves to the meter of that number
-student 2 does the same but moves to the other tape measure
-the third student then places the quadrat at the point where the two places meet, student records the number of objects within the quadrat
-students return the number into the baag and repeat the experiment 9 times
-calculate the number of daisys in the whole feild
-total pop=(total area/area sampled) x number counted

Q

Factor effecting the distribution

A

-place a tape measure at the tree
-use a quadrat to measure count the number at objects close to tree
-use a quadrat to count the number of daisys at the start of the transect
-record the light intensity using a light meter
-move the quadrat 1m down the transect and repeat measure
-continue this till we reach the end of the transect
