- to recreatwe the Golden Age fo architecture. - Augustus saw 5th century Greece as a high point in architectural and sculptural design. He was inpired by bulding like the parthenon.
- Pax Romana meanign the peace of Rome. It was key to Augustan rome. The battle of Actium marke dthe end of civil war. Augustus soufht ot promote himself as bringer of peace
- Pax Decorum meanign the peace of Gods. This was also a key concept for Romans. If the GOdswere appeased then Rome woudl flush. If they were angered, then the romans woudl suffer.
- self and family promotion. Although Augustus gave the impression of ROme being a republic, he deffo wanted to promote himself and his damilly so he emphaissed his family’s links other than the fods, while promoting future heirs

the Doryphous (spear bearer) sculptured byu Polykleitos artound 440 BC. It was praised as the depiction of the ideal man. The sculptor of the prima porta has used this and Romanised it to promote the Augustan ideal..

- A’s right arm is raised - similar to the pose of an emperor or general to address the army AD LOCUTIO. this creates an imafe of power and militaery succes, that he woudl be able to bring

- he is also inn armour, protraying him as a soldier. THe breastplate contsins many religious images on it showing he can balance both aspects - the standards - on the breast plate demonstrte peace
- The statue of cupid is at the feed of Augustus and cupid sits on the back of a Diving dolphin. THis related to venus as dolphins were also one of her animals. It also links to the battle of Actium which is a symbol do success
