What what the reasons for creating the Declaration of Independence?
- Tariffs
- Lack of representation (if they are going to give them taxes, they should be represented)
- Quartering of British soldiers (sent soldiers because they knew they were going to start breaking away)
- Boston Massacre (shot colonists for being taunted at)
- The Intolerable Acts (designed to punish colonists)
What are tariffs?
Taxes on imports. Things that are coming into the colonies- newspapers, tea -which lead to Boston Tea Party).
What was the Boston Massacre
British soldiers killed 4 colonist protestors at Boston Common.
What were the Intolerable Acts?
Designed to punish colonists. The colonists called it this. They closed the port of Boston, gave more power to British royal government in the colonies, more soldiers in the colonies, fed the fires.
What was the Stamp Act?
Occurred in 1765, part of the Intolerable acts, basically it was new paper (currency, money) for the new world, but they produced it Great Britain. More ways to control them.
What was the Sugar Act?
placed a tax on molasses, a product that was widely used by the colonisits.
What were the two most important Battles in the Revolutionary War?
Battle of Saratoga and Battle of Yorktown
What were the names of colonists who still agreed with British rule?

Who is Samuel Adams?
Born is Massachusetts. Samuel Adams is sometimes called the “Father of the American Revolution” because of his early stand against the tyranny of Great Britain and his speeches and writings that drew many American colonists into the fight for freedom.

What was the Continental Congress?
The Continental Congress was a convention of delegates called together from the Thirteen Colonies that became the governing body of the United States during the American Revolution.
The Congress met from 1774 to 1789 in three incarnations. The first call for a convention was made over issues of mounting taxation without representation in Parliament and because of the British blockade. Though at first somewhat divided on issues concerning independence and a break from Crown rule, the new Congress would come to issue a Declaration of Independence and a Constitution, and proclaim the name United States of America as the name of the new nation. It would establish a Continental Army and also have to endure a war with Britain, before fruition of an independent Constitutional government was fully realized among the American colonies.

What was the Battle of Saratoga?
In New York, The Americans/Patriots/Colonists won a victory against the British, which convinced French that they have a good chance of winning. When they did win, they supported the Colonists, they wanted to weaken the British.
Gave them Economic support and Military support.
Without the French aid, the patriots would not have been able to defeat them.
What was the Battle of Yorktown?
The battle where the colonists won and British surrendered. The last battle. Led to the colonies becoming independent states.
