Duke of Norfolk , a senior Protestant and senior noble with links to the old catholic families of the North. Disliked the new Protestants on the court and realised he could marry Mary Queen of Scots who was next in line if Elizabeth didn’t produce a heir

Rebels capture Durham castle and hold a Catholic mass
16 th November
Duke of Sussex writes to the Privy Council that he is having trouble finding an army to fight the rebels
22nd November
Most of Northern England is controlled by the rebels
30th November
Some rebels divert to capture the port of Hartlepool and meet the Spanish. The Spanish never arrive
14th December
Rebels take control of Bernard castle in County Durham
16th December
14,000 men March from the South to fight the rebels. They reach Durham and most rebels retreat.
