Revision: anatomical regions of the body Flashcards
femoral triangle borders
superiorly by inguinal ligament
medially by sartorius
laterally by adductor longus
floor (lat.) by iliopsoas, (med.) by pectineus
roof by fascia lata, subcut. tiss., skin
femoral triangle contains
lat -> med:
femoral nerve (and terminal branches)
femoral sheath containing:
- femoral artery and assoc branches
- femoral vein and proximal tributaries
- femoral canal containing deep inguinal lymph nodes and assoc. lymphatic vessels
axilla borders
apex: cervico-axillary canal, bounded by 1st rib, clavicle and sup. border of scapula
base: concave skin, SC. tiss and axillary/deep fascia from arm to thoracic wall -> this all forms an axillary wall, the armpit
anteriorly: bounded by Pec. M and m and associated fascia
posteriorly: ant. surface is scapula and subscapularis, inf. surface is Teres M. and Lat. Dorsi
medially: thoracic wall (1-4 ribs and intercostal muscles) and the overlying serratus anterior
laterally: intertubecular groove of humerus
axilla contents
axillary artery and branches
axillary veins and tributaries
axillary lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels
These are all embedded in a matrix of axillary fat
It contains large nerves that make up the cords and branches of brachial plexus, proximally ensheathed in a continuation of cervical fascia, the axillary sheath
cubital fossa contents
Radial nerve
biceps tendon
brachial artery
median nerve
cubital fossa boundaries
superiorly: imaginary line from med -> lat epicondyles of humerus
medially: pronator teres
laterally: brachioradialis
floor: supinator and brachialis
roof: brachial and antebrachial fascia reinforced by bicipital aponeurosis, SC tiss and skin
anatomical snuff box boundaries
medially: tendon of EPL
laterally: tendons of EPB and AbPL
proximally: styloid process of radius
base: carpals: scaphoid and trapezium
roof: skin
anatomical snuff box contents:
radial artery
the cephalic vein begins here
Popliteal fossa borders
Sup-lat: Biceps femoris
Sup-med: Semimembranosus
Inf-lat and -med: lat. and med. heads of gastrocnemius
Roof: skin, subcutaneous tissue fascia
Deep: diverging medial and lateral supracondylar lines of the femur
Popliteal fossa contents
Termination of small saphenous vein
Popliteal arteries and veins
Tibial and common fibular nerves
Posterior medial cutaneous nerve of thigh
Popliteal lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels
