reversible reactions ✓ Flashcards
1
Q
what is the symbol that shows us that a reaction is reversible ?
A
⇌
2
Q
what is the reversible reaction for copper sulphate ?
A
- get some hydrated copper sulphate and heat it up using a Bunsen burner
- this evaporates off the water leaving anhydrous copper sulphate
- to get it back to hydrated copper sulphate add water
3
Q
what is the reversible reaction for ammonium chloride ?
A
- get a conical flask and put ammonium chloride in it
- ammonium chloride with thermally decompose
- breaks down into ammonia and hydrogen chloride
- have a boiling tube of ice in the top of the conical flask with mineral wool around it to keep it secure
- when the ammonia and hydrogen chloride cool down they will reform the ammonium chloride
4
Q
what states are ammonium chloride and ammonia and hydrogen chloride in ?
A
- ammonium chloride is a solid
- hydrogen chloride is a gas
- ammonia is a gas
5
Q
what type of reaction is the reversible ammonium chloride reaction ?
A
a neutralisation reaction because NH3 (ammonia) is an alkali and HCl (hydrogen chloride) is an acid
6
Q
what is a reversible reaction ?
A
the products of the reaction can react with each other to react back to the original reactants
