respiratory system imaging Flashcards
what is the medical acronym for breathing
pne/o = breathing
difficulty breathing = dys/pnoea
fast breathing= tachy/pnoea
slow breathing= brady/pnoea
able to breath only when sitting or standing = ortho/pnoea
what are some common respiratory clinical indcators
chest pain and trauma
difficulty breathing
shortness of breath
rapid breathing (tachypnoea)
what are 3 common lung pathologies
airway diseases which affect the bodys ability to move air in and out of the body
tissue disease which caused by scarring and iinjury to the tissue
lung circulatory disease which affects the bodys ability to circulate blood in and out of the lungs
what is pneumonia
this is the inflammation of the lungs due to infection
the bronchioles and the alveoli experience inflammation and they fill with fluid
lumbarpneumonia affects one or more lobes
bronchopneumonia affects both areas of the lung
what is a pleural effusion
this is when fluid enters the plural activity in the lung
what is a pulmonary embolism
this is when a clot is blocking one of the arteries.
the symptoms are severe breathlessness tachycardia, tachypnoea, and chest pain
how would covid show on in medical imaging
on a CT scan it will have a ground glass appearance and on an xray there will be appearances of pneumonia
what is heamothorax
when the l;ung collapses and blood goes in and fills the plural space
what is pneumothorax
this is when air leaks between the chest wall and the lung causing the lung to collapse due to the air pushing against the lung
