Accessory organs Flashcards
what is the gross anatomy of the liver
it has visceral and diaphramic surfaces and they consist of 4 lobes made of lobules
these 4 lobes are the right, left, quadrate, and caudate
name some of the accessory organs
spleen
liver
pancreas
gallbladder
describe the anatomy of the liver lobules
the liver lobules are made of hepatocytes and HA and Hepatoic portal vein DELIVER OXYGEN AND NUTRIENTS TO THE SINUSOIDS WHERE BLOOD FLOWS FROM
They also radiate from the central vein
what is the function of the portal vein
the portal vein carries venous blood from the GI tract to the liver befor collection nutrients and going to the body
what are hepatocytes
these are the main issue cells of the liver which contain lartge amnout of smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum
what are the functions of the liver
converts glucose into glycogen to dop glucose levels after a meal
lypogenisis - stores fat in subcutanious tissue and uses lyposis to convert it to fatty acids and glycerol
it also stores vitamins b12, a, e, d, and k. iron and copper and glcogen
deaminates any excess amino acids
excretes urine
what are some main liver pathologis
inflammation
fibrosis
cihrrosis
end stage liver disease
symptoms are
- jaundice
- lack of body hair
- confussion
what is hepatitis
hepatitis is an inflammatory type of liver disease induced by bacteria, drugs, alcohol, metabolic disease etc
hep A - contaminated food and drink from stool
hep b - blood of an infected person through sex
hep c - blood of an infected person
hep d - only contracted if the persoin has hep b frim infected blood
hep e - undercooked pork
what is cihhrosis
this is when the liver is filled with ascites and it can cause loss of appetite
what is steatosis
this is fatty liver disease which is when fat infiltrates the liver due to a very high fat diet
what is portal hypertension
this is when blood from the portal vein doesnt pass through the sinusoids corectly due to high pressure in the sinusoids causing the blood to tak back as it cant go anywhere.
this can cause gastrointestinal bleeding
what is pancreaitis
this is the inflammation of the pancreas
