How do we Inhale
A
The diaphragm will contract and move downwards creating an increases in the size of the thoracic cavity, so that air can be forced in.

How do we Exhale
A
The diaphragm returns to the dome shape, making the thoracic cavity smaller. This results in an increase in air pressure within the lungs allowing air to be exhaled.

A
The amount of air breathed in during each breath, depends on demand

A
The maximum amount of air that can be breathed in and out in one breath
