Heart Function Flashcards
What is the Atria
The top chambers which collect blood when it enters the heart, pumping the blood into the ventricles
What is the Ventricles
The lower chambers of the heart, which send blood up to the lungs or around the body
What is the Septum
The right side of the heart is separated from the left by the septum. This prevents blood on the right side coming into contact with the blood on the left side
What is the Bicuspid valve
Separates the left atrium from the left ventricle. Allows blood to flow in one direction only.
What is the Tricuspid valve
Separates the right atrium from the right ventricle. Allows blood to flow in one direction only
What are Semilunar Valves
Pushes blood up and out of the heart. Aortic valve and Pulmonary Valve
What are Coronary Arteries
Two arteries that supply blood to the heart
What are Chordae Tendineae
Chord like tendons connected to the bicuspid and tricuspid valves to prevent the valves turning inside out.
