What is Ossification

A

The process in which bones are formed. Minerals are laid down in the cartilage and bones become harder and less flexible. It is the process of creating bones from cartilage

What is the growth plate

A

The growth plate is a disc of cartilage at each end of the long bone, found in children. It separates the diaphysis from the epiphysis and only place where an increase in bone length can take place.

What is osteoclasts

A

Cells that destroy or clean away old bone. Unnecessary calcium is removed via the osteoclasts

What is Osteoblasts

A

Cells that build bone by bringing calcium to the bones. Created by exercising more, resulting in stronger bones

A

Cells that grow tissue. They form from osteoblasts and make up majority of mature bone matter.
