Respiratory System Flashcards
What are the parts of the UPPER TRACT of the respiratory system?
Nose, Paranasal Sinuses, Pharnyx, Larynx
What are the parts of the LOWER TRACT of the respiratory system?
Trachea, Bronchi, Lungs
What are the systems involved in the CONDUCTING zone of the respiratory system
The Nose - allows air into the nasal cavity
Pharynx - Muscular Tube that connects respiratory and digestive systems
Larynx - Cartilaginous chamber that connects pharynx to trachea keeps food and drink out of airways, produces sound
Trachea - Tube of rins connecting larynx to bronchi pseudostratified columnar et to move mucous
Bronchi - Transports air to the lungs. Right is wider and more vertical
Terminal Bronchiole - End of conducting zone transport air from segmented bronchii
ALL HAVE CILIATED PSEUDO-STRATIFIED ET
What are the parts of the RESPIRATORY Zone of the Respiratory System
Alviolar Duct - thin-walled tube that transports air from terminal bronchi to lungs gas exchange
Alveolus - Type 1: Simple squamous ET for gas exchange
Type 2: secretes pulmonary surfactant to reduce surface tension And alveolar microphages to remove debris
Lungs - Cone-shapes organs that perform gas exchange
All have SIMPLE SQUAMOUS EPITHELIAL TISSUE
Passage of Air
- Nostrils
- Nasal Cavity
- Paranasal Sinuses
- Pharynx
- Larynx
- Epiglottis
- Trachea
- Bronchi
- Bronchioles
- Alevolar Duct
- Alveolar Sac
- Lungs
What is the space around the lungs that is filled with serous fluid?
Pleural Cavity
What is the difference between the two kinds of pleura
The Parietal Pleura is the outermost layer that connects to the thoracic wall, the visceral pleura that covers the surface of the lungs
What is Boyle’s Law?
Pressure and volume are inversely related
