Bone Landmarks Flashcards
What bones make up the pectoral girdle
- Clavicle - Anterior s-shaped bone of pectoral girdle
- Scapula - posterior triangular bone
What are the landmarks on the posterior view of the scapula?
- Acromion - flattened process that articulates with the clavicle
- Coracoid Process - Underneath the clavicle. A short hook for muscle attachement
- subscapular fossa - braod, ridgy depressions for subscapulous movement
- Glenoid Cavity - shallow depression that articulates with the head of the humerous
What are the anterior view landmarks of the scapula?
- spine of the scapula - the ridge at the top where trapezius and deltoids attach
-
supraspinous fossa - depression above the sots for suprapinitus muscle
3 Infraspinous fossa - broad depression below the spine for infraspinitus muscle
What are the landmarks for the top of the humerous?
- Head - smooth, round projection that articulates with the glenoid cavity
- greater and lesser tubercle - bumps up near head, the greater is on the lateral side
- Intertuburcular sulcus - a groove between the tubercules pully-like for biceps brachii
- Deltoid tuberosity - rough v-shaped surface for the deltoid muscle to attach to.
What does rougher bone provide?
More surface area = attachment sites for muscle
What are the landmarks of the anterior bottom of the humerous?
- Capitulum - Lateral-most bump, articulates with the radius
-
Trochlea - medial projection, pully like for articulation with ulna
3 Medial and Lateral Epicondyles - muscle attachment sites - Coronoid fossa - anterior depression that receives the coronoid process from the ulna
What are the landmarks of the posterior bottom of the humerous?
- Olecranon fossa - middle depression that receives the olecranon off the ulna
- medial and lateral supracondylar ridges - muscle attachment sites
What are the bones of the pelvic girdle?
Ilium, Ischium, Pubis
What are the landmarks of the Ilium? (Lateral view)
- Iliac Crest - curved supermost margin of Ilium for attachment of back and abdominal muscles
- Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (ASIS)
- Posterior Superior Iliac Spine (PSIS)
- Acetabulum - socket for head of femur, large cup shaped cavity
What are the landmarks of the Ilium (medial view**)
- Auricular Surface - ear-shaped region that connects to the sacrum
- Greater Sciatic Notch - Large u-shaped indentation for the sciatic nerve
What are the landmarks of the ischium?
- (Lateral view) Ischial tuberosity large rough part of ischium aka sits bones
- (Medial View) Greater Sciatic Notch Large u-shaped indentation for sciatic nerve
What is the large hole between the pubis and ischium called?
Obturator Foramen
What are the landmarks of the top of femur?
(All posterior)
1. Head - superiormost knob
2. Neck of the Femur - narrow region extending from trochanters to head.
3. Greater trochanter - Lateral-most, superior expansion from the base of notf
4. Lesser Trochanter - smaller posterior projection
What are the landmarks of the bottom of the femur?
- Gluteus Tuberosity - Y-shaped posterior area that connects to gluteus maximus
- Linea Aspera - the long ridge that tubs along the back
- medial and lateral condyles - cartilage bits
- medial and lateral epicondyles - rough area for knee ligaments and muscle attachments (on barrier of epicondyls)
