Respiratory system Flashcards
what is the respiratory system for ?
The part where oxygen is absorbed by the body so the organs can work
what are the respiratory system organs ?
Nasal cavity Pharynx Larynx Bronchioles trachea Lungs Alveoli Diaphragm Nostrils Bronchus
what is the function of the nostrils ?
Contains small hair that catches all the dust particles
what is the function of the nasal cavity ?
filters and warm the air, and make it moist before it goes into the lungs.
what is the function of the larynx in the respiratory system ?
lets air pass from your pharynx to your trachea
what is the function of the bronchioles ?
carry air to small sacs called alveoli.
what is the function of the trachea ?
carry air in and out of both of your lungs and connects trachea and bronchus .
what is the function of the lungs ?
contains alveoli so the process of gas exchange called respiration occurs there
what is the function of the bronchus ?
carry air to and from both of your lungs and has branching airways
what is the function of the alveoli ?
where the lungs and the blood exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide during the process of breathing in and out
what is the function of the diaphragm ?
pulls air into the lungs
what happens to the diaphragm when you inhale ?
pulls downward
what happens to the lungs when you inhale ?
becomes bigger and expands
what happens to your lungs when you exhale ?
becomes the original size
what happens when you exhale ?
the diaphragm relaxes and goes upwards
what is the difference between the left and right lung ?
the right lung has three lobes
the left lung has two lobes and is slightly smaller so that the heart can fit in between the lungs
What is the function of the pharynx in the respiratory system ?
carries air down from the nose and mouth.
