What is magnet ?
An object that has its atoms aligned so that the object has a magnetic field
What happens when two different magnetic poles are put together ?
Attract
What is a magnetic force ?
when a magnet attracts or repel another magnet.
what happens when two like magnetic poles are put together ?
Repels
What is permanent magnet ?
An object that is made of magnetic material and stays a magnet for a very long time
Can we see magnetic field lines without using any material ?

What does all magnets have ?
Magnetic poles (a North Pole and South Pole)
What is a magnetic field ?
The region around a magnetic which a magnetic force acts
How can we see magnetic field lines ?
Using Iron fillings
What are the rules of drawing a magnetic field lines ?
Each line starts on a North Pole and end on a South Pole
The ARROWS from each file line should go from North Pole to South Pole
The ARROWS on the North pole is pointing outwards
The ARROWS on the South Pole is pointing inwards
What is the relashionship between earth and magnets?
The earth is a giant magnet
- If a magnet is left to move (so that there is no friction on it) it will align itself with the earth’s magnetic pole
What are the different types of magnets ?
Permanent magnets
Temporary magnets
Electro magnets
What is a temporary magnet ?
Those who only act like magnets when they are around a strong magnetic field
What is electromagnet ?
Electro magnets can be switched on or off by using an electric current and we can also control the strength by using a coil
How do we increase the strength of electromagnets ?
Using a coil
Increasing the number of turns in a coil
