Ecology And Population Flashcards
- What is Habitat ?
A habitat is a place where organism lives .
- How are cactus able to adapt to their habitat , in THE DESERT !! (list the characteristics)
- stems that can absorb water
- spikes which modifies as leaves
- thick and waxy cuticle
- widespread and deep roots
- reduced number of stomata
- what is an ecologist ?
An ecologist is a scientist who studies how animals and plants interact with their environment .
- Aquatic plants that grows in Malaysia
- water hyacinth
- duckweed
- water lily
- lotus
- what is population ?
Population is a group of individuals of the same species living and interbreeding within a given area .
- what is a community
An interacting group of various species living in a common area .
- what is sampling ?
Sampling is a method that allows us to measure the abundance and distribution of species .
- different types of sampling methods
- pooter
- quadrats
- sweep netting
- Pitfall traps
- what does the arrow –> in a food chain indicate ?
The arrow indicates the energy flow .
- What is a producer ?
A producer is an organism that makes its own food
- What is consumer ?
A consumer feeds on both plants and animals .
- What are the different type of consumer ?
- Primary consumer
- Secondary consumer
- Tertiary consumer .
- what is prey ?
A Prey is a animal that feeds on other animals but also gets eaten but other animals .
14 .what is predator ?
A predator feeds on other animals which is the prey .
15 . what is herbivore , omnivore , carnivore ?
- herbivore : feeds on plants (producers)
- Carnivore : feeds on other animals
- Omnivore : feeds on both plants and animals
- what is a decomposers ?
A decomposer feeds on dead organisms and gives nutrients to the soil and it goes back to the plant. they get their nutrients from the dead and then transfer the nutrients back to the soil and then back to the plant .
17 . Examples of decomposers
- Fungi
2. bacteria
what factors effects the size of the human population ?
1 . asteroid
2. virus
what are the adaptations of polar bears ? and what is it used for ?
- white fur = camouflage from predators
2. small ears = small surface area to help maintain body warmth
the population decrease along the food chain why ?
Because the arrows indicates the energy flow and when they go along the food chain energy is lost a long the food chain that’s why the organisms decrease
