Respiratory Physiology & CPET Flashcards
What does Forced Socillation Technique (FOT) diagnose?
small airway obstruction.
2-5cm H2O oscillation forced through mouthpice, measuring resistance.
Repeatability requirements for spirometry?
FEV1 and FVC within 0.15L of all 3 trials.
Good start requirements for spirometry?
Extrapolated volume <5% of FVC or <0.15L
For broncho-provocation challenge, what is a positive test?
Dose of the provocative substance that causes drop in FEV1 of 20%. Named PC20 or PD20.
What medications can be continued for bronco-provocation challenge testing?
ICS, LTRAs.
How do you test for needing oxygen for air travel?
- HAST = High Altitude Simulation Testing.
- Indicated if SpO2<92% or PaO2 <70.
- Tested by giving FiO2 15.1% for 20 minutes.
- If SpO2 falls below 85%, or PaO2 <55, then give O2 for air travel.
MCID for 6MWT distance?
30m
Flow-volume loops shift which direction for COPD vs which direction for restrictive disease? (Left vs right)
Left for COPD; right for restriction.
