Respiratory Pharma Flashcards
Name all classes of Respiratory Pharma
B2 adrenoceptor agonists, inhaled corticosteroids, inhaled anti-muscarinics, CysLTs, Theophylline’s, Mast Cell Stabilisers.
What class is tiotropium and ipatropium
Inhaled anti-muscarinics
Name a long acting anti-muscarinic
Tiotropium
Name a short acting anti-muscarinic
Ipatropium
Differences between ipatropium and tiotropium
Duration of action and selectivity
What inhaled anti-muscarinic is selective for M2 and M3 receptors?
Ipatropium
What inhaled anti-muscarinic is selective for M3 receptors?
Tiotropium
What inhaled anti-muscarinic is the better bronchodilator
Tiotropium as it is selective for M3 receptors which promote bronchodilation, whilst ipatropium is selective for both M2 and M3 receptors. M2 receptors promote the effects of ACH due to them being located on pre-synaptically, which promotes bronchoconstriction.
What COPD/asthma medication has caffeine like effects?
Theophylline’s, as they inhibit the effects of adenosine.
