Q

What drug is preferenced in a patient with predisposed genetic polymorphism (prasugrel or clopidogrel) and why?

A

Prasugrel is preferred as it is only susceptible to genetic polymorphism in the second step of its action, whilst clopidogrel undergoes CYP enzyme metabolism in both steps of action which means it has two chances to undergo genetic polymorphism. Therefore prasugrel has an increased likelihood to not undergo genetic polymorphism.
