Acute Viral Rhinitis
upper respiratory: common cold ; spread by airborne droplets or contact
Influenza
upper respiratory: flu ; spread by droplet; group A & group B. Group A infect humans and animals H1N1, bird flu, swine flu
Pneumonia
acquired by: aspiration, inhalation, spread from other infection. causes: viral, bacterial, fungi, parasites, chemical, mycoplasma
clinical manifestations of PNA
productive cough (rust colored with pneumococcal PNA), confusion, lung crackles
Tuberculosis
Gram + acid fast bacilli: Mycobacterium tuberculosis; usually affect lungs but can travel to other organs
clinical manifestations of TB
weight loss, fatigue, night sweats, white frothy sputum, frequent cough, hemoptysis (advanced)
TB Drug Therapy - RIPE
Rifampin- turns body fluid orange
Isoniazid
Pyrazinamide
Ethambutol- decrease in red/green color discrimination
Coccidioidomycosis
Valley fever; soil borne fungus found in desert regions. not contagious from person to person
