Ethics
The study of a system of moral principles and standards, or the process of using them to decide your conduct and actions.
Bioethics
Refers to the application of ethical principles to healthcare.
Nursing Ethics
A subset of bioethics.
- Refers to ethical questions that arise out of nursing practice
Value Neutrality
We attempt to understand our own values regarding an issue and to know when to put them aside, to become nonjudgmental when providing care.
Beneficence
The duty to do good or promote good
Nonmaleficence
Do no harm and prevent harm
Autonomy
Refers to persons right to choose and ability to act on that choice
Justice
The obligation to be fair
Fidelity
The duty to keep promises
Veracity
The duty to tell the truth
Accountability
Be there, be accountable for self and patients
Confidentiality
Keep everything private, follow HIPAA
Morals
Refer to private, personal, or group standards that consider what is good, bad, right, or wrong.
