Respiratory Flashcards
What is Salbutamol?
A Beta-2-adrenoceptor agonist
Short acting bronchodilator
What does Salbutamol do?
Inhibits contractions of uterus
What does Salbutamol treat?
bronchospasm due to asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, premature labour
What is Salmeterol?
A beta-2-adrenoceptor agonists
Long acting bronchodilator
What does Salmeterol treat?
Asthma symptoms, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, exercise induced bronchospasm
What is Ipratropium bromide?
A muscarinic receptor antagonist
A bronchodilator
What does Ipratropium bromide do?
Inhibits augmentation (increased rate) of mucus secretion
What does Ipratropium treat?
Acute asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
What is Tiotropium?
A muscarinic receptor antagonist
Long acting
What does Tiotropium treat?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
What does Theophylline do?
Inhibits phosphodiesterase and blocks adenosine receptors
Relaxes and opens bronchi
What does Theophylline treat?
Symptoms of asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and other lung diseases
What do inhaled corticosteroids do?
Inhibits T-cell activation thus inflammatory response
What do inhaled corticosteroids treat?
asthma
What are two examples of inhaled corticosteroids?
Budesonide, fluticasone
