respiration - glycolysis Flashcards
1
Q
what are the 4 stages of respiration
A
glycolysis
link reaction
Krebs cycle
oxidative phosphorylation
2
Q
define glycolysis
A
splitting glucose
3
Q
explain the process of glycolysis
A
- glucose (6C) is converted to phosphorylated glucose (6C) using 2 x ATP
- phosphorylated glucose (6C) is split into 2x triose phosphate (3C)
- triose phosphate (3C) is oxidised to pyruvate (3C) producing 2x NADH and 4 ATP
(net production 2x NADH and 2 ATP and 2 pryuvate)
4
Q
where does glycolysis occcur
A
in the cytoplasm
5
Q
what is the net production of glycolysis
A
2x NADH and 2 ATP and 2 pryuvate
