Respiration! Flashcards
When do we use energy?
*To move around
*To send electrical impulses along neurones
*To keep our bodies warm when it is cold
What happens to carbs in the digestive system?
Carbohydrates are broken down into a sugar called glucose by the digestive system.
What role does glucose play in the bodyβs energy supply?
Glucose is delivered to cells through the blood and used to produce energy.
What must energy do to in order to do something and how does glucose do this?
Energy must be changed from one type to another or transferred in order to do something. glucose is an energy store and must be released before being used up by your cells
How is glucose released?
Glucose is released by tiny structures called mitochondria found in cells. they carry out aerobic respiration.
How is energy released in this reaction?
Energy is released in a very controlled way-just a little bit of energy is released, enough for the cells needs
